ABOUT THE FORUM

A platform for the women shaping Zimbabwe’s mining sector

This forum brings together senior leaders across operations, investment, policy and innovation to share practical insight and inform the future direction of Zimbabwe’s mining industry.

Designed to deliver substantive outcomes, the forum provides sponsors, partners and participants with direct access to decision-makers shaping projects, strategy and policy across the mining value chain.

Women represent an estimated 8 to 17 percent of the global mining workforce.
WE CAN CHANGE THIS BY #WINNINGTOGETHER

WHY ATTEND

The women shaping the sector’s direction

A working session, not a networking event, with the women shaping the sector’s direction.

The Women in Extractive Industries Leadership Forum provides direct access to the women already setting Zimbabwe’s mining investment, operational and policy strategy, those responsible for determining what is built, approved and prioritised.

The forum will take place on 19 November 2026 at 13:30, as part of Zimbabwe Mining Week 2026 at Rainbow Towers, Harare.

ZIMBABWE CONTEXT

Understanding the current landscape

The following reflects a specific and evolving picture for women in Zimbabwe’s mining sector, and underpins the rationale for this forum.

10–15%

Estimated share of women in Zimbabwe’s national mining workforce, according to the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), broadly in line with global mining averages.

Varies widely

Female participation in artisanal and small-scale mining specifically is reported anywhere from roughly 10% to around half of miners in some districts, reflecting how informal and regional this part of the sector is.

Active advocacy

Organisations including the Zimbabwe Women in Mining Association (ZAWIMA) already run community-led governance and responsible-sourcing dialogues across the country’s mining districts.

Leadership gap

Across available research, women remain under-represented in managerial and technical leadership roles even where on-site participation is growing, the gap this forum is designed to address.
